It is not 100% Team Ninjas fault right here! They said that they were taking a more realistic approach to the graphics. And also the interview from Famitsu was longer and had much more information about DOA5 then the English translation! They only took part of the interview and blew it up to what it is now, that some of the costumes are see through, because of the water particles and breast bounce! First off we have seen that the breast don't move as much as before! You can see a movie on Youtube which shows xD also the journalist as I've said before only want to write what people wanna hear and that's boobs. And it's also the journalist who ask the questions, not TN. TN has to answer the questions and that's what going on and they are getting rediculed because they answer the fucking journalists bad questions!

I think you may have a point there. They want to make it more serious, but they still have elements of sexualization. Then again, the focus on sex could be due to questions people have been asking, what other people want to focus on, and what the target audience wants.
I'm curious as to how DOA is going to be ridiculed they market it as a "serious fighter". They are already being ridiculed for DOAX and other stuff from the past.
if TN can make a good ad for this game i don't think will have a problem

If DOA's engine was worth discussing, the interviewers would have been addressing that. Yes, the sexual aspect of DOA is always go to be with a topic of discussion, but the response that TN should have given is "while we want to make our characters appealing, we'd like the focus of DOA5 to be on the game itself rather then the character physics." Done. The problem is that Team Ninja is letting the sexual aspects dominate the game itself. They need to remind the media that there is more to the game than just women (if they feel that is, in fact, the case).
I don't think DOA5 is going to be classified as a skill oriented fighter. That doesn't mean it will be bad per say, but they need to stop pretending that it is.
Sonic, I'm not sure about the advertising of the game. I know I'm furious about how it's been handled so far and as such don't plan on purchasing DOA5 (at least a new copy. Team Ninja can suck it) at this point in time. Maybe some of the more casual gamers will check it out for it's graphical appeal, but most fighting game players from outside DOA that "I" have talked to don't seem especially interested in it, and I don't plan on trying to convince them otherwise.

I dont get why people says it doesnt take skill to win in DOA! All games takes skill. I don't feel any difference when playing DOA and SC! And I am quite good at both games. Quite frankly I am good in Tekken, Virtua Fighter, SC and DOA! But I prefer DOA over all of them! And the FGC is blinded by the breast so they can't see what a great game DOA is!
I think DOA5 is going to be great! And it looks like it and it's shaping up rather well! I do hope DOA5 gains some more respect from gamers around te world and in the FGC but I don't really care what other people think I care about what I think and I love DOA and I want what's best for DOA. So if people don't want to buy it it's their loss!

In tearms of difficulty and skill level no! It is a different game ofcourse, so the gameplay mechanics are different xD l was saying with this that I dont think in tearms of skill there is difference between SC and DOA! I am a good playing, I atleast think so xD but I am not at the level of Master or those guys! I was in the old days but now they are way ahead!
Its just frustrating hearing that the game I like to play and trying to master, takes no skill to learn! Thats just bullshit!

I think that DOA could be considered to be a serious fighter, but its reputation has been tarnished by DOAX. In reality, the main series has the same levels of female sexualization as other fighters, but no one remembers that. Some don't even remember DOAX is just a silly spin-off series, or even the games, just the boob physics.
I guess it could be the fault of society's view of women, or its obsession with sex, and the human nature to remember the bad rather then the good, but then again, Team Ninja are not helping themselves by mentioning stuff like that. Their marketing material (the trailers and stuff) show that they are trying to get serious, but then they mention how the costumes affect the breasts or answer questions on the subject, and everyone runs with that instead. What are we to expect from that? :/

It does take skill to win at DOA. The problem is that the 'amount of skill' that's required to be good at DOA isn't very much at all (from a competitive perspective).
In Mortal Kombat 9 (referencing this game because I'm a little more comfortable with it than others) characters can pull of some absurdly damaging combos, but the skill that's required in terms of meter use, character positioning, and just straight up execution far exceeds that of DOA. You have to work for your damage, whereas in DOA5 I can get an 80% combo with Hitomi doing 66kkk, 66kkk in a danger zone environment. That's poor balancing.
I hope DOA5 is great, but it wouldn't surprise me if it gets dismissed by "competitive" players very quickly. I'll probably play it (If I buy it, it's going to be used so Team Ninja doesn't get my money) because I love Hitomi, rather then actually enjoying the mechanics of the game.

This. They're absolutely clueless as to who they're targeting.

I think DOA is the least skillful fighter on the market, even though it does take skill MK and SC on the other hand are glaringly more difficult and complex. The long damaging combos are hard to do, unlike DOA.
That said, I still love DOA but I think they should change some things for the real game (okay maybe a lot lol) like making the sidestep more useful, and giving each character a couple of anti-step moves. That would add more depth to the ganeplay. Of course there is more needed to be done if DOA5 is to be taken seriously (I've learned unfortunately).

The demo so far is better than DOA4 so it's going in the right direction. I do agree more is needed in DOA5 but so far so good.

We have until September, so hopefully some changes will be added to make the game more challenging. However, I have a feeling that there won't be that much change, so not the isolate the casual market, or stop newcomers from being scared off by complex systems.

In DOA5: Hitomi's 66kkk twice in danger zones with a lose timing window = 80% damage
In MK9: Kitana: f2+1 jp 4+fans 2+lift delay b2+fans ground fans 2+cutters with a much stricter timing window is about = 49% damage no meter mid screen (can be increased if you want to)
(This is nothing compared to the timing/skill required for Cyrax's 98% resets. I don't even wanna know what those are like to input)
I'm not pretending to know everything about MK, there are a TON of high level players who expose me for the amateur that I am (gr8one, 16bit, mr. mileena, the list goes on and on) but look at the strings above and tell me which one takes more skill to execute on a consistent basis.
I would be very surprised if tournament DOA5 play has danger zones enabled at all. They'll probably fix the multi-danger zone combos in the final version, but I still don't like how they disrupt the flow of the game and really feel too random. They're sort of like x-ray attacks, except that x-rays are cool and these aren't.
I want to like DOA, but between my frustration with Team Ninja, trailers, and seemingly watered down gameplay I'm finding it difficult to find something to be excited about.
Just a few more things
- Side stepping straight up useless in the alpha version unless your character is named Hayate and you use his secondary sidestep ability and not his 'true' sidestep. - Hitomi, a character who I expect would struggle against effective side step tech, seems to have good options that track anyway making side stepping even more useless. Her 6k does for sure, but I need to test this a bit more to confirm. - I straight up don't think DOA5 will be taken seriously by anyone who isn't already in the DOA Community at this point. Prove me wrong Team Ninja (lol).
